Chapter 1
My husband hired someone to rape me for his first love and even claimed that our child was a bastard.
And he did all that because he wanted to marry his first love.
"Sign the divorce agreement! It's really hard for a single mother to support her kid. I can't let anything happen to Kaitlin and her child."
But I was still holding our child in my arms.
I begged him to think about our child. It'd be hard for me to raise our child alone too.
But he had someone beat me and our child to death.
When I opened my eyes again, I was reborn on the day I signed the divorce agreement.
I wouldn't be that silly in this life.

"Kaitlin is different from you. She's been living in comfort since she was little. She can't live without a man taking care of her."
As I snapped back to reality, Brenton's deep voice rang in my ears.
The divorce agreement and a pen were put in front of me. Our son, Glenn Murray, was sleeping peacefully in my arms.
It didn't take long for me to realize what was happening.
It turned out that I was reborn on the day when Brenton demanded to divorce me.
Glenn's body was still warm, unlike the cold and lifeless body in my arms when he died from a heart attack in my previous life.
My nose tingled as tears welled up, but I didn't hesitate. I signed the papers.
"Don't forget the monthly alimony."
"You..."
He seemed a little surprised at how quickly I gave in.
But that surprise soon turned into a smile of relief and delight.
We had been married for seven years but I had never seen him like that.
He carefully folded the divorce agreement. "Elena, I appreciate your understanding on behalf of Kaitlin.
"We'll remarry after Kaitlin and her son settle down. Remember don't slip up about the reason we divorced."
The monthly alimony was equal to half Brenton's salary. He agreed to pay me the alimony on the condition that I had to admit that I had a hereditary mental illness.
He made up such a ridiculous excuse just so Kaitlin wouldn't be tainted by even a speck of scandal.
I gave a bitter laugh. "Fine."
The sky was gloomy. Hail as big as beans pelted the ground.
Brenton and I walked outside together. He got into the car before me.
Trembling from the cold, I was about to pull open the car door when I heard him say, "Efrain heard I had been divorced. He wants to celebrate by going to the zoo to see the tigers. You're a mom-you get it, right?"
And with that, the Jeep sped off like he was afraid I'd chase him.
The hail stung as it hit me, the cold making it hard to even breathe.
I had no other choice but to wrap Glenn in the coat and walk back carefully.
But no sooner had I entered the neighborhood than I saw a few gossiping women standing under the shed.
They all showed a disdained look upon seeing me.
I held my breath and was about to take Glenn back home when an egg was smashed against my head.
"You slutty cheater! Shame on you!"
"No wonder your child has a heart attack. I'm so sorry for Mr. Murray."
I stood frozen, stunned.
Didn't Brenton divorce me for a mental disorder? Why did the reason become me cheating on him?
I flared with anger and wanted to refute them when someone threw a bottle at me.
Glenn was freaked out and cried so hard that his face turned pale.
I had to hold back my temper and take him back home first.
As soon as I got home, I heard the phone ring nonstop.
I picked it up with one hand while holding Glenn in the other.
The doctor's brisk voice came from the other side of the call, "Elena, we've got an expert who can do heart surgery for babies from the General Hospital here. I've told him about your son's case and made an appointment with him!
"Can you take Glenn to New York in seven days?"
Hearing the good news, I almost burst into tears with excitement.
In my previous life, I had to take care of Glenn alone and my reputation was ruined.
Drunken men knocked on my window at night, harassing me. Glenn didn't even survive three days after the divorce-he passed from his heart condition.
In this life, I must keep my child alive anyway!
I wiped my tears. "Yes, I'll go!"
I hung up and immediately started packing. I didn't dare waste a second.
Just as I was zipping up the last suitcase, I heard the door creak open behind me.
Brenton's voice followed. "Where are you going?"
